Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.
An important political figure commented the vandalism made him without words and required to be solved quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
